  • Loose Cuttings (held in boxes and magazine holders. Very limited connection and organisation)

Cuttings were collated by Southend Libraries librarians as a daily task. No new cuttings since 2013.

Custodial history:
Newspaper cuttings relevant to Southend and surrounding area were collected and collated together based off of either chronology or topic. This was a daily task done by the Librarians until circa 2013. Some of the cuttings were bound into volumes, others collated into folders and the rest left loose in vague groupings. No record of where they were stored prior to the move from Victoria Avenue to The Forum in 2013, although there is reference to the cuttings being accessible within the Reading Room at Central Library.Since 2013 the cuttings were stored in three different places. The bound volumes were within the Glass Cabinets in the Local Studies area, the cuttings in folders are on the open shelves in the Local Studies Area and the loose cuttings were stored in boxes and magazine holders in the Archive Room.In late 2023/early 2024 some of the loose cuttings in the archive room were grouped together by topic into magazine holders which were then labelled. Some of these folders were moved onto the open shelves in the Local Studies area, the rest remain in the Archive Room.An attempt to catalogue the cuttings and their contents was began in 2022. (Records for Finding Aids on Spydus).
