Books
This volume contains the narratives of the Service Battalions of the Essex Regiment. The 9th, 10th and 11th were raised immediateley upon the outbreak of war in 1914 and were continually engaged until the conclusion of hostilities in 1918. The 13th Battalion came into being in the winter of 1914-15 as the result of the recruiting campaign by the County Borough of West Ham. It was sent to France late in 1915 and served there until January 1918, when it was disbanded. The 15th Battalion was originally composed of men from the Essex Territorial Brigade who were medically unfit for service overseas, and was employed on home defence duty until May 1918 when it was transferred to France and took part in th final advance.
